BFA Investigating Marriott Starwood Data Breach
This morning Marriott International Inc. announced that it identified a data breach in its Starwood reservation system that may have exposed the personal information of up to 500 million guests.
The data breach may include unauthorized access to the names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, passport numbers, travel details, and the potential payment-card information of guests who have stayed at Starwood hotels since 2014. Starwood’s brands include Sheraton, W Hotels, Westin, Le Méridien, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, St. Regis, Element, The Luxury Collection, Tribute Portfolio, and Design Hotels
Marriott discovered the potential breach on September 8, 2018, but has not informed potential victims of the breach, instead releasing information regarding the breach to news outlets.
