Lesley E. Weaver of BFA is Co-Lead counsel in litigation against Facebook concerning Facebook’s disregard of Facebook users’ personal privacy and the exploitation of users’ personal identifying information (“PII”), including their photographs, names, locations, and biographical information. BFA’s investigation suggests that for years Facebook has provided third-party business partners, including creators of apps, with access to users’ PII without obtaining users’ consent and without users’ knowledge. Facebook’s exploitation of users’ information came to the public’s attention following news that Cambridge Analytica, one third-party app, had obtained over 87 million Facebook users’ PII and used that data to create detailed profiles or dossiers of Facebook users. BFA has learned that Facebook gave many other third-party app developers access to users’ PII without obtaining users’ consent and in violation of State and Federal laws.
Facebook maintains a webpage where users can check to see if their PII has been compromised as part of the Cambridge Analytica incident.
The Facebook litigation has been consolidated and is pending in front of Judge Vince Chhabria of the Northern District of California. On July 27, 2018 Judge Chhabria appointed Lesley E. Weaver of BFA as Co-Lead counsel to prosecute claims against Facebook.
Please contact BFA if you have been informed that your PII was compromised as part of the Cambridge Analytica, or if you are interested in serving as a class representative in this historic litigation.
